In Your Next Life You Will Be Together With All of Your Friends is a collection of short pieces from a variety of disparate places and times, covering Nilsen’s career drawing comics. The book collects work originally published in a variety of places as the New York Times, The Believer, Fantagraphics’ anthology Mome, and an obscure fanzine recreating a fifty year old issue of Fantastic Four. One piece was originally done for a gallery show in the mid-aughts. Another was a collaborative piece started secretly in Anders’ sketchbook by Gabrielle Bell at the Miami Book Festival in 2015.

The book is both collection and a sort of manifesto, a statement about what comics and graphic storytelling is and can be, exploring some of the places Nilsen has gone with it over the span of twenty years emphasizing ideas over style.
